Crude Glycerine

Composition

Crude glycerine is a viscous liquid that's brown to black in colour and contains carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms. It's made up of about 80-85% glycerine, 15-20% water, and 20-25% fatty acid salt.

Production

Crude glycerine is created during the biodiesel production process, which involves pressing oil seeds, refining the crude oil, and then converting it into biodiesel and glycerine through esterification.

    Crude glycerine has many uses, including:
  • Food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics: Large-scale biodiesel producers can purify crude glycerine and use it in these industries.
  • Leather, textiles, ceramics, and construction: Crude glycerine can be used in these industries in both its pure and mixed forms.
  • Coolant: Crude glycerine is also used in the manufacturing of coolant.
  • Crude glycerine can be used to produce ethanol and formic acid.
